Blocks are very useful, except when they take too much time to figure out. Here is a tip that can help get “block frustration” out of your way.
Question: How can I control the prompt order for attributes?
Answer: The order of selection is the key when building a block definition. If you just window off the geometry there’s a high chance you won’t get the prompt order you want. When choosing objects for a block definition, make sure you individually pick the attribute definitions first, in the order you need it to be prompted, then select the remainder of the geometry.
